As you travel into Northern California you'll discover miles and miles of spectacular coastline. The landscape is defined by the Pacific Ocean with dramatic cliffs and pounding waves - any sunbathers are likely to be the local sea lions.
This stretch of Highway 1 is made up of numerous little worlds. Bodega Bay will be familiar as the setting for Hitchcock’s The Birds. The Russian River Valley offers more than 70 wineries, including the Korbel Champagne Cellars at Guerneville. Your base for this region will be the picturesque hill-top town of Mendocino. The early settlers of this quaint fishing village came to California in 1852 from the east coast of America and as a result Mendocino is often referred to as California’s New England Coast.

Rise early today and meander your way along the Pacific Coast stopping at dramatic vistas along the way. Just north of the California/Oregon border you'll encounter Redwood National Park, home to the tallest trees on Earth.
Situated in the splendour of Oregon's Southern Coast and in the heart of America's Wild Rivers Coast is Gold Beach - where the Rogue River meets the Pacific Ocean. Steelhead and salmon share local waters with drift boats, canoes, kayaks and jet boats. This part of the coast line is dotted with quaint small towns and deserted, rugged sandy beaches.

It's no wonder National Geographic listed Cannon Beach as one of the 100 most beautiful places in the world.

An outdoor lifestyle abounds with urban forests and a bridge exclusively for bikes. It's known for being eco-friendly and for some of the USA's best microbreweries and coffeehouses. It's also chock full of the most innovative food trucks and home to the world's largest independent book store. Portland is unique and we think you'll like it.

Spanning over 290,000 acres across southern Washington and northern Oregon, the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area is eighty miles long with cliffs nearly 2,000 ft high. Carved by the great Missoula Floods, the gorge is simply stunning. Drive slowly along the Columbia River Highway and stop to enjoy the panoramic view from Crown Point. Waterfalls are plentiful on this journey, but the most memorable is Multnomah Falls, the second's tallest in the USA.
Spend your time on gentle hikes through wildflower meadows or checking out lush canyons filled with ferns and raging rivers. You might want to also consider a leisurely bike ride around the ‘Fruit Loop' - the quiet country highways of Hood River Valley abounding with fruit stands, a handful of berry farms and wineries. Here too, President Franklin D. Roosevelt dedicated the first federal dam to span the Columbia in 1937. Its generators are visible from a balcony on a self-guided tour or up close during free guided tours offered daily in summer.

The area around southeast Bend is sometimes referred to as the “Oregon Outback” and is one of the most sparsely populated areas of the contiguous USA. This true wilderness region offers a myriad of activities from mountain biking to horse-back riding.
